Bio-individuality

Bio-individuality

Bio-individuality is one of my favorite buzzwords of the holistic nutrition world. I believe whole heartedly in this concept that each individual is different and no single recommendation or set of rules is right for everyone.

Seeking out individual needs was a pillar of my studies to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. We learned how to become detectives with our clients and work together to discover what foods, habits and supplements would work best for their body. This process is not simple or quick, but the results can be life-changing.

Nutrition and diet fads are advertised as a miracle cure for all bodies, but not all bodies are alike. While a universal diet would be more convenient, one combination of food and exercise may be perfect for some and detrimental for others.  Protocols like AIP, Paleo, Whole30 and vegetarian/veganism are a great way to get started, but I don’t believe in staying in one set of parameters forever.

With so many food options to choose from, our innate understanding of what is best for our bodies has been diluted. Added sugar, added chemicals and fortified nutrients confuse the body into thinking this ‘food’ is more nutritious than it truly is.

My goal as a food educator, is to give you the skills to experiment and find what is best for you. I teach basic cooking techniques that are applicable to a variety of ingredients to allow flexibility in your diet.

I am not here to tell you what to eat, but rather to help you produce food that you and your body will enjoy.

To prevent and reverse chronic illness, you must tune into your own body. To find a lifestyle that works for you, you must be willing to listen to the symptoms of your body and ignore cultural pressures to eat foods that harm you.

The idea of experimenting with your own diet and lifestyle may seem intimidating, but I believe if you fill your life with properly prepared, nutrient dense food, there will be less room for harmful habits.

Focus on overwhelming your body with the good, and the bad will be easier to let go.
